Sammy's Story

My search for a stallion to complete the breeding plan for Moonbah Ridge Morgans began in July 2007. My search included many studs, countries & websites. I knew I was looking for a special man to compliment our mares and to fit into the plan. Plans were underway to travel to the USA to view some prospects when we stumbled on a small advertisment on the AMHA website. It wasn't as fancy as some of the others I had seen but the stallion's breeding and size definately attracted me. I spoke at length with his owner and she agreed to send me some photo's and information.  On receiving the package I was captured straight away by his kind eye and pedigree. I decided he was right. Briarlane Ebony Fortune (aka Sammy) arrived in Australia in December 2007 and has impressed us beyond our wildest dreams since his arrival.

Since leaving Michigan he has had to contend with all manner of new things including 9 weeks of travel, new surroundings in Australia, being mouthed & trained to long rein and much more. In true Morgan style he has taken it all in his stride (albeit a big strong stride at times) and just loves learning new things.

Sammy's first EVER show was the 2008 Australian National Morgan Show in Tonimbuk Victoria. We were so excited to be able to show him off to the Australian Morgan fraternity. He was quite overwhelmed with the excitment of so many different horses all together in one place but acted like the true gentleman he is and we couldn't have been happier with the result.

Sammy travelled to Victoria in winter 2008 to the Australian Equine Behavioural Centre (AEBC) to be started under saddle. He impressed everyone at the centre with his hard working attitude. See the short video at week 3 of his training.

The beauty of the Morgan horse lifts the heart. The breed exists solely because it pleases people - it is their heritage.
